Scotty Phelps
– General Manager/Owner
General
Manager Scotty Phelps was born and raised in San Jose, California.
At 15 years of age he got his first job at a steak house where he
worked his way up from busboy to cook to manager over a period of
12 years. Scotty also did short stints with chain restaurants Denny’s
Inc. and Old Houlihans. Scotty left the restaurant business in 1984
to pursue other careers, including UPS and 10 years working as a
911-operator/police dispatcher, all while maintaining his hobby
of barbecuing & grilling. His dream though was always opening
his own restaurant. To make sure he still loved working in restaurants,
he went back to work for a BBQ joint where he was mentored by an
old smoke BBQ competitor who taught Scotty more tricks of real BBQ.
In February 2000, Scotty came to Kauai to share his BBQ smoked meats
with the island. Most often you will find Scotty in the kitchen
overseeing his excellent staff preparing succulent Ribs, mouth-watering
Pork, Brisket and chicken for his customers. Don’t hesitate to poke
your head inside and say Aloha. Scotty hopes to retire in about
15 years to travel the country and enter Competition BBQ contests.
